THE PERFORMANCES

The performances

Going beyond the concert phase, the Somontano Wine Festival has taken one step further and has prioritised the D.O.’s new commitment to make culture, theatre and arts the purpose and travel companions of the promotional actions of Somontano wines. It marks the beginning of a new cycle that requires a new space in keeping with that philosophy.

The Barbastro Conference Centre is the new stage for the event, a space perfectly prepared for the Festival’s new additions, with five very different shows offering a wide variety of genres and formulas from stand-up to magic.

THURSDAY, 31 JULY

8:30 to 11:00 p.m.: BROKERS

The PRODUCER YLLANA, faithful to the style of the play’s creators, takes another look at the savage and irreverent world of high finance though its mad and hilarious way of seeing the world.

Its protagonists are four businessmen (“sharks”) seeking success in the era of consumerism. A superb soundtrack and impeccable set complete a work that is at once absurd, incredibly corrupt and vicious while triggering hilarious guffaws in even the most sombre of spectators.

FRIDAY, 1 AUGUST

8:30 to 11:00 p.m.: LA CENA DE LOS IDIOTAS

Starring JOSEMA YUSTE (“Martes y Trece”) and DAVID FERNÁNDEZ (the actor who gave life to the character of Chiquilicuatre) and with the collaboration of FÉLIX ÁLVAREZ (“Felisuco”) in the cast, Francis Veber’s work “La cena de los idiotas” has been recreated on stages all over the world. It is a comedy classic that has given rise to this new version under the expert direction of Juan José Afonso, a classic that has been filling theatres now for three years.

SATURDAY, 2 AUGUST

7:30 p.m. PEDRO RUIZ

The show “Uno, pequeño y libre” by PEDRO RUIZ, the multi-talented showman extraordinaire who invented the one-man show in Spain. This is his 21st production, a reflection of a career path rich in projects, creativity and freedom, which shares with its predecessors all the components that have become its creator’s trademark: a combination of criticism, the grotesque, current affairs, reflection, excess, tenderness, and surprise, because his solitude on the stage seems like a carousel of characters.

SATURDAY, 2 AUGUST

11:30 p.m. ANTONIA SAN JUAN

“Lo mejor de ANTONIA SAN JUAN”, the actress who rose to fame for her performance in Pedro Almodóvar’s film “All about My Mother”. After twenty years working in bars (Corazón negro, Candilejas, La Lupe and Mad, among others) and touring around Spain, almost all of the Spanish-speaking countries, Italy, the United States and Portugal with “Otras mujeres” and “Las que faltaban”, the actress, producer and artist has made a compilation of her monologues both for the audience that has always followed her and for those that have now discovered her on television. The show includes some never-before-seen pieces from her bar days as well as a sneak preview of her next show, “Mi lucha”.

SUNDAY, 3 AUGUST

8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ANTONIO DÍAZ “EL MAGO POP”

The star of the television channel Discovery Max and the winner of the National Magic Award will put on his show “La gran ilusión”.

The plot is based on the idea that after the success of the American reality show “The Truman Show”, a small local TV station decides to produce the second total reality show in history: “Magic Life”. The star of the Spanish version is the unwitting centre of a television programme that broadcasts his life, live, 24 hours a day.

Since childhood the main character has felt an overwhelming obsession with sleight of hand tricks. The actors that play his family and friends make him believe that he is an exceptional illusionist. But the truth is very different: his tricks are simple and overused. Everyone knows his secrets.

One day, like Truman, he discovers that his whole life has been a huge lie. He decides to leave the programme as millions of spectators sadly look on  spectators that had followed his life every day for the past 23 years. But, once he’s off the programme, the main character sets himself a goal: to put together a show to prove to the whole world that he is an extraordinary illusionist!
